Prominent Central Albania Folk Singer Dies due to Serious Illness
Popular singer of Central Albanian folk music, Shqiponja Lela has passed away this Monday.
Sources have confirmed that Lela was suffering from a serious illness and after her death, she left behind a daughter, named Lela.
However, the last name Lela says a lot when it comes to folk music, as Shqiponja was the daughter of folk music icon Myslym Lela, who is considered a convincing giant of Albanian folk songs.
On her part, Shqiponja Lela is best known as a member of the Lela family ensemble which toured abroad and recorded the album Polyphonies vocales et instrumentales d'Albanie in 1992.
In addition to her work with this group, she has also recorded under her own name, specializing in popular wedding songs of Central Albania.
