Protest Warned in Kosovo after Young Girl Beaten Up to Death
The murder of an 18-year-old girl on Sunday in Ferizaj has sparked outrage in Kosovo, while a protest is warned this Tuesday. (Read also)
Institutional leaders responded by urging justice authorities to deal urgently with the case while various organizations demanded more commitment from the state to protect women’s lives.
In this line, the Kosovar Center for Gender Studies has called a protest for today at 12:00. The protest is being held near the Police Station, the Court and the Prosecution in Ferizaj, as a sign of revolt against the violence.
The statement said that the demands of the protest are to address the phenomenon of femicide as provided by the Istanbul Convention, maximum punishment for murderers, security for girls and women in all areas, and fair treatment of gender-based violence against women by the Government of Kosovo.
One person has been arrested and another is wanted by the police in connection with the murder of an 18-year-old girl in Ferizaj named Marigona Osmani, who was beaten up to death by her boyfriend.
