Number of Foreign Visitors Edge up in April
After a slight slowdown in March, April has brought positive signals for the tourism sector and cross-border movements.
The latest data published by INSTAT show a slight increase in the number of entries into Albanian territory, both by Albanian citizens and foreigners.
The increase in traffic comes on the eve of the summer season, reflecting a growing interest in Albania as a travel destination and the return of flows to higher levels than last year.
According to INSTAT, in April 2025, 1,487,149 Albanian and foreign citizens entered the territory of Albania. This indicator has increased by 6.0%, compared to April 2024.
Some 1,485,226 Albanian and foreign citizens have left the territory of the Republic of Albania, marking an increase of 5.9%, compared to the same period a year earlier.
In April 2025, the number of Albanian citizens who have entered the Albanian territory totaled 667,998, increasing by 9.6%, compared to April 2024.
The number of foreign citizens who have entered Albanian territory totaled 819,151, an increase of 3.2% compared to the same period in 2024.
In April 2025, 683,983 Albanian citizens are counted as having left the territory of Albania, marking an increase of 11.5%, compared to April 2024.
The departures of foreign citizens from the territory of Albania during April 2025 totaled 801,243. Compared to the same period a year ago, this indicator has increased by 1.5%. In April 2025, 95% of the entries of foreign citizens in Albania are from the European region. Southern Europe accounts for 74% of the entries of foreign citizens from the European continent, followed by Western Europe with 13%.
The purpose of entry into the Albanian territory of foreign citizens, in 97% of cases, is for personal purposes, dominated by entries for vacations, visits to relatives, etc. In April 2025, this indicator has marked an increase of 0.8%, compared to April 2024. Entries of foreign citizens for business and professional reasons have increased by 40.8%.
Tourism in Albania continues to experience steady development, reflected in a notable increase in both the number of visitors and their overnight stays in accommodation facilities.
Overnight stays also saw a strong rise of 30.8% in March, with non-resident guests accounting for the largest share, up by 32.1%, whereas domestic overnight stays grew by 28.4%.
The most pronounced growth in non-resident visitors was recorded in non-coastal areas, with an increase of 20.6%, and in hotels and similar accommodations, where the rise reached 27.6%.
In March 2025, the majority of foreign visitors staying in Albanian accommodations came from Italy (23% of the total), followed by Kosovo (15%), Germany (10%), the United Kingdom (7%), and France (3%).
