Protests Against Zvërnec Resort Project Spread Across Albanian Cities
Demonstrations against the proposed resort project in Zvërnec continued to gain momentum on Saturday, with citizens gathering in multiple Albanian cities to voice their opposition and demand greater government accountability.
The rally began with the slogan “Get Up From Your Coffee,” as protesters assembled in the city center to express their resistance to the development project. During the demonstration, participants called on Prime Minister Edi Rama to confront what they described as growing public anger over the initiative.
In Elbasan, citizens gathered for a second consecutive day of protests against the planned resort. Organizers reported a significantly larger turnout than the previous day, reflecting what they described as increasing public concern over the project and its potential impact on the area.
The protests, which initially drew large crowds in Tirana, have since spread to other cities, including Elbasan, Shkodër, and Fier, signaling a broader nationwide mobilization.
Meanwhile, a substantial number of demonstrators also took to the streets in Shkodër to oppose the project. Protesters launched a march from the city's historic cathedral area in the Gjuhadol neighborhood, proceeding toward Shkodër City Hall, where organizers planned to deliver their message to local authorities.
The growing wave of demonstrations highlights mounting opposition to the Zvërnec development plan, with protesters calling for greater transparency, public consultation, and the protection of areas they consider part of Albania’s natural and cultural heritage.
