EU Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi declared Thursday that the EU will stand by Albania for the reconstruction of schools and cultural facilities while appreciating the solidarity of the Donors' Conference in February.

This was a message given as today Albania commemorated one year after the devastating earthquake of November 26, 2019, where 51 people lost their lives.

"One year after November 2019 devastating earthquake in Albania & following great solidarity shown at the donors’ conference organized by the European Commission in February, the EU continues to stand by Albania to repair schools and cultural heritage sites.

Importantly, reconstruction follows principles of accountability, transparency and Building Back Better," Commissioner Varhelyi noted.
