Rama to Meet Ministers and SP Leaders as Albania Prepares 2027 Budget and Local Elections
The Prime Minister Edi Rama is scheduled to meet with government ministers and the Socialist Party’s regional political coordinators today at 9:30 a.m., amid a busy political agenda involving upcoming fiscal reforms, recent protests and preparations for next year’s local elections.
The meeting comes days after violent protests in Tirana and as the government prepares to present the 2027 state budget and fiscal package to Parliament.
At 10:00 a.m., the Committee on Economy, Employment and Finance is scheduled to review the draft 2027 budget, alongside a series of proposed amendments to Albania’s tax legislation.
The proposed fiscal package includes changes to laws governing excise duties, value-added tax (VAT), national taxes, income tax and tax procedures.
Meanwhile, discussions over the date of the 2027 local elections are also underway.
Representatives of the ruling Socialist Party are scheduled to meet President Bajram Begaj at 9:00 a.m. to discuss the election timetable. Representatives of the Social Democratic Party, led by Tom Doshi, are also expected to meet the president at 11:00 a.m. for consultations on the same issue.
Under Albania’s Electoral Code, the president must announce the election date nine months before the end of the current mayors’ mandates. November 6 is considered the final deadline for issuing the decree, with voting required to take place on a Sunday between April 15 and May 15, 2027.
The Democratic Party has publicly rejected President Begaj’s invitation to participate in the consultations. Democratic Party parliamentary group leader Gazment Bardhi described the process as a political “theater.”
