Rrahman Rraja Gives Up MP Mandate after Kruja Scandal

Rrahman Rraja has given up his mandate as an MP in Albanian Parliament, representing Socialist Party (SP).

The decision follows the violence that the Rraja tribe exercised against two cousins in Borizana, part of which were the brothers and son of the SP MP.

Rraja announced the decision to hand over the mandate through a statement distributed to the media, where, among other things, he apologizes to the abused persons, while he appeals to his son, wanted by the police, to surrender.

"I have no words to express the embarrassment towards all those who have trusted me all these years. Unfortunately I failed as a parent and feel publicly shamed by my child. I apologize to my friends and colleagues in the parliamentary group and declare the surrender of the mandate of the MP and my withdrawal from political life. I apologize to those who have voted for me since 2000 as mayor and for 2 terms as MP.

I apologize to the victims of that shameful violence for my family. I call on my son to surrender to justice. May God give me strength to face this great pain and life to pay off this shame that he left on my shoulders like a stone. In the end, thanks and apologies to the party chairman and the prime minister, who did not owe me anything for this great public concern that I caused him," he writes.
