Competition for the construction of Saranda International Airport has been opened, announced Friday the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Belinda Balluku as she said that this airport will be a private investment and will cost 37 million EUR.
In a public statement, the Infrastructure Minister underlined the state will not be directly involved in the project and will not provide financial guarantees, but will be in support of the investor.
Furthermore, Balluku said that in the first 3-4 years at the airport is expected to elaborate over 1 million passengers, while the race for the airport will remain open from 2 August until 23 September.
"Maybe for the skeptics who are saying about the one in Kukës that was 3D, obviously the work speaks and there is no need for words. Saranda Airport will be added to the air infrastructure as it is a strong pillar for the development of the country. We have had interest from different groups in Europe and I am hopeful that this process will also be successful.
In Saranda, we expect to elaborate 1 million passengers in 3-4 years. The competition will be open on the ministry's website from August 2nd to September 23rd.
The investor will have the total support of the state and the ministries but the expropriation process will be done by the state together with the Expropriation Agency. I am sure that the residents of Saranda will be satisfied with this news", said Balluku.
