Snow Sweeps Across Albania, Road Axes to Be Avoided

Albania has been swept across by freezing rain and heavy snowfalls, resulting in deterioration of circulation in several roads across the country, Albania's Civil Emergency Department informed late Saturday.

Snow has covered the southeast and north of Albania but even cities as Durresi and Tirana, while local authorities reported some road axes in villages were blocked.

However, the national roads remain open for traffic, said Civil Emergency Department but no one is allowed to travel without tire chains as authorities calls everyone to stay home and avoid unnecessary movements in this extreme weather.

The most problematic roads according to the State Police blocked or where no one is allowed to move without tire chains are:

Milot - Lezhe - Shkoder : Road is actually blocked due to heavy winds and snow. Police informed on the presence of ice on road as a truck from Montenegro blocked the road.

Milot - Kukes - Morine : Road is passable only with tire chains but police informed that there is ice on the road 

Elbasan - Librazhd road is opened, passable only with tire chains;

Elbasan - Pogradec road is opened only for vehicles equipped with tire chains;

Korçë - Pogradec road is opened only for vehicles equipped with tire chains;

Korçë - Devoll and Korçë- Ersekë roads are opened only for vehicles equipped with tire chains;

Burrel - Bulqizë - Dibër roads are opened only for vehicles equipped with tire chains;

Peshkopi - Kukës road is opened only for vehicles equipped with tire chains;

Shkodër-Hani i Hotit and Shkodër-Muriqan are opened and passable normally; 

Vau i Dejës - Pukë road is opened;
