State Funds to Finish Qukës - Qafë Plloçë Road
The completion of the works on the first lot of the Qukës – Qafë Plloçë road will be financed by the state budget.
The Albanian Road Authority has signed a contract with the company that will carry out the works, following the tender held in November last year. The value of the contract is around Euro 3 million, while the works will be carried out by the local company Albavia, Scan TV reported.
The tender for the completion of the works was opened after a filed verification on the existing condition of the segment, taking into account the long time that has passed since the initial start of the works. The tender documents stated that the works on this segment began in June 2009. Meanwhile, during their implementation, a massive landslide occurred, where in addition to the village that was on the left side of the road, the road body, the concrete retaining walls, the works of art, etc. were damaged to a considerable extent.
As a result of the landslide, the road segment was modified, which was associated with an additional cost of 20% of the contract value. But, even with the additional funds, the facility was not completed 100% and was not put into use, as the road layers, horizontal and vertical signage, some bridge elements, etc. remained unimplemented.
Therefore, for the segment to be accessible to vehicles, a series of works are needed, which will be implemented through a new contract concluded by the ARRSH.
In addition to Lot I, work is currently underway on two other lots to complete this road, while it was previously stated that the works are expected to be completed in 2025. The road axis Qukës – Qafë Plloçë has a total length of 43.8 km and will be a category C1 road where the permitted speed will be 80 - 90 km/hour.
