Suspected Diamonds, Cocaine Seized in Joint Operation at Albania’s Main Port
Authorities in Albania have seized four precious stones believed to be diamonds, a quantity of suspected cocaine, and a specialized electronic device used for detecting precious metals during a joint operation at the Port of Durrës.
The operation was carried out by Customs officials and State Police officers as part of routine inspections targeting potential smuggling activities.
According to officials, the first discovery was made during the inspection of a vehicle arriving on the Ancona–Durrës ferry route from Italy. Officers found a suitcase containing a metal-detection device along with several detachable accessories.
In a separate inspection, authorities searched a traveler arriving from Italy and found four transparent packages containing stones resembling diamonds. The items were seized and will undergo further examination to determine their authenticity and value.
During another vehicle inspection, officers discovered a quantity of suspected cocaine concealed inside a garment located in the driver’s cabin. The substance was confiscated and sent for forensic analysis.
The cases have been referred to the competent investigative authorities for further procedural and criminal investigations. Officials have not yet released details regarding the identities of the individuals involved or the estimated value of the seized items.
The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by Albanian law enforcement agencies to combat cross-border smuggling, drug trafficking, and other forms of organized crime at the country’s main maritime gateway.
