Testimony of Retirement Home's Worker Who Beat Up Elderly
The statement of the worker of retirement house in Peja, Aurona Pelaj who beat up the mother of the KLA martyr has been published.
In the statement given to the police after her arrest, she showed no signs of remorse, and even accused the elderly woman of having hit her first.
In her statement to the police published by Kosovar media, it is said that the nurse justified the violence with the claim that the elderly woman was aggressive.
"When I started working, she was already a resident of the house and the doctor confirmed that she has mental disorders. On the day when the case happened, she was very aggressive and from time to time experienced nervous crises, and we informed the doctor about this. I heard a noise in the bathroom and went to look. My colleagues had problems there and I wanted to help. She (the elderly victim) attacked me and caused injuries to my hand, she attacked me with a kick. I did not use violence or great force except to stop her attacking me. She also attacked another resident that day", she stated.
Pelaj has also stated that she has learned that he should be dominant towards people with mental problems.
"At school we were taught that people who pose a risk to the staff and have mental problems should be dominant towards them. I am aware that the action was excessive and under the influence, but she attacked me first and my actions were warning and not with great force. My colleagues have tried to get her (the old woman) under control", she added.
She also stated that the publication of the video was done on purpose by the center after she left work yesterday. According to her, she was not prepared to deal with people who have mental problems.
The footage of the elderly woman being beaten at the "Orenda" elderly care center in Peja has shocked public opinion. The two nurses, Aurona Pelaj and Altina Rexhepi, allegedly attacked the elderly woman brutally, as Remize Kuqi recorded the moment.
