Thumana Citizens without Houses a Year after Earthquake

Thumana, a village that very few people knew its name before November 26, 2019, continues to suffer today the consequences of the devastating earthquake, which took the lives of 24 residents a year ago.

Fax News journalist Fatjon Gjinaj was today in Thumanë, where he met some residents of the area, some of whom live in tents, and some others inside damaged houses at DS4 level.

"I have a damaged house at DS4 level, and I am forced to stay there as no one from the institutions has come to see it. I was told that the commission for verifications is no longer coming, I am staying there together with my wife ", says one of the residents, who seems to have been forgotten for a year.

Another resident of the area says that he has been staying in the tent for a year together with his wife, who is paralyzed and finds it impossible to move to another area.

"I stayed in the tent with my wife, they told me that they would make me a new house. When it will be done for everyone, it will be done for us as well. Now we are waiting for our house to be ready. The tent has started to tear. I have a sick wife and I have nowhere to go. They gave us the rent bonus, but I have nowhere to go ", says another resident of Thumana, who still lives among the ruins.

On November 26, 2019, Albania was hit by a powerful earthquake of 6.4 magnitude. It killed 51 people (almost half of them in Thumana), injured around one thousand, and left as homeless thousand others.
