Tirana Mayor Criticizes AFA President over Sport Investments
The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj has criticized the President of Albanian Football Association (AFA), Armando Duka, for whom he said that he should have invested more on sports.
According to Veliaj, the Municipality will do its job, although this task, according to him, belongs to the responsible persons.
"We will do our part, even though sport is not our main thing and maybe, those who have sport as their main job, should have done more. Tirana is half of the population, it is half of the economy and it can not be the only municipality that also deals with weightlifting, long jump, athletics and football. But, we will do our part and we will do it well", stressed Veliaj.
We recall that a day ago, Erion Veliaj stated that what happened in the direction of the Football Association by Armand Duka is what should not be done to develop sports movement. For this reason, according to him, Duka should be accountable to the prosecution.
The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, brought together on Thursday all the most prominent names of Albanian football, who have written history with the jerseys of Partizan, Tirana and Dinamo, who returned to the green field to bring back once again the emotions of the Capital derbies. In the activity organized by the Municipality of Tirana, Veliaj appeared next to the football legends of the capital and said that he will continue to support the sport with investments and premiums based on the results achieved.
"I can not wait that this year, when Tirana holds the title of European Youth Capital, to increase investments in sports. We have indeed set a prize every year - Tirana received 150 thousand euros a year because it won the championship - but, as the city has grown, Dajti, Farka, Kashari and many other teams deserve to be supported and we will invest based on the results that bring. Tirana belongs to everyone! Taxes are paid by everyone - teams, benefactors or even those who do not play at all and are not fans - and as long as it belongs to everyone, we will have to reward the teams based on the cups they bring, as we are doing with Sport Club Tirana", said Veliaj.
