The wait is over, the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games has started this Friday in Tokyo, amid pandemic restrictions.
More than 11,238 athletes from 204 countries will compete in 33 sports and 50 different disciplines at Tokyo 2020. The Olympics will host 339 events, while everything will close on August 8th.
In a $ 1.5 billion stadium that can hold nearly 70,000 people, athletes from all over the world have paraded in an almost empty space, due to the COVID restrictions.
The 2020 Olympic Games have started in Tokyo with a minute of silence in honour of the victims of the pandemic. Only 950 VIP spectators were present in the giant stadium, including 800 foreigners and 150 from the host country, Japan.
These measures were decided by the organizers in consultation with local authorities, given the fact that COVID figures in Tokyo have been on the rise over the past few days.
