Tourism Increased by 86% in H1 Compared to 2019
Albania ranks first in the growth of tourism among the EU and candidate countries, leaving behind other countries such as Greece.
The tourism growth in Albania was 86 percent, while Greece had a 25 percent increase compared to 2019. Of course, the number of tourists in Greece is many times greater.
Data from the European Commission report shows that small countries such as Albania and Montenegro have seen the strongest market growth in the first 6 months of 2024.
The European Travel Commission says that Albania is attractive to foreign tourists, as recently there has been an increasing trend of Asian visitors.
According to the report, tourist activity in Europe has largely followed a similar trend during the first two quarters of 2024. International travel has been increasing across the continent compared to last year. Compared to pre-pandemic levels, the increases are 6% and 7%, respectively.
The destinations of Southern Europe, including Albania, have encouraged the growth of European tourism and remain constantly preferred for favorable climatic conditions on the eve of the summer season, as well as for affordable costs.
In 2024, operational costs for tourism businesses and, therefore, travel costs for consumers remain one of the most prominent topics for the global industry. In addition, the appeal of value for money in non-traditional destinations, together with the return of travelers from the Asia-Pacific, and the increasing availability of rail travel are increasingly shaping Europe's tourism landscape.
The report of the European Commission that ranks Albania at the top confirms the upward trend that Albania has had for several years in tourism.
The year 2023 ended with 10 million visitors, while forecasts speak of a significant increase during 2024 as well.
