Deputy PM Belinda Balluku (C) and AKUK head Klevis Jahaj in Dhërmi

Treatment of Polluted Waters on Coastal Areas

Deputy Prime Minister, at the same time Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku visited over the weekend the area of Dhërmi, in the municipality of Himara, where she closely inspected the implementation of the normative act for the treatment of polluted waters from hotel entities operating along the coast.

There are Task Force inspectors on the ground, who monitor the process at every step. Also in the area of Dhërmi, businesses have started to install water treatment plants, responding positively to this decision, on the eve of the start of the tourist season.

In the area of Dhërmi, 190 subjects are subject to the normative act, which focuses on improving the quality of service.

The administrator of the National Agency for Water Supply and Sanitation (AKUK), Klevis Jahaj, said that the entire process of installing the plants is being carried out in this period, where the hotel structures have also started preparations for the next season, thus not creating obstacles for any of them.

Minister Balluku said that the action is mainly focused on coastal areas, where the largest flow of visitors is accommodated.

The minister requested that the teams of inspectors not create any obstacle for any subject. "We are very careful to do the work without disturbing, while the entities are getting ready to open. The Task Force, as well as other groups dealing with water and sewage issues, should go to check, but without disturbing the subjects as it is very good news that this season will start much faster than last season," Balluku underlined.

The European Agency for Washing Water for 2022 classified 67.5% of washing water in Albania with "excellent" quality, while the aim is to reach 95% of washing water with "excellent" quality through this process.
