Unexploded WWII Missile Found in Saranda Beach by Swimmer

An unexploded World War II shell was found this Friday noon by a young man, who was swimming on the “Central beach” in the city of Saranda, Southern Albania.

Found missile is suspected to date back since World War II and was spotted at a distance of about 3.5 m from the shore and at a depth of about 1.5 m. The shell has a length of about 0.5 m and a weight of about 6-7 kg. According to police sources, the shell is unexploded.

However, the dangerous ammunition, which might have been displaced by sea currents near the coastline, was spotted by him with the naked eye, revealed the young swimmer.

Fortunately, young man, assisted by a maintenance worker of the Municipality who happened to be on the scene, took the missile ashore and called the police, which immediately went to deal with the life-threatening issue.

In addition, military engineer specialists from Gjirokastra have been notified and are expected to take the unexploded shell and dismantle it.
