US Ambassador Discloses Meeting with Elected Mayors in North Kosovo

The US ambassador in Pristina, Jeffrey Hovenier, reacted after the meeting with the elected Mayors in the north of Kosovo.

Jeffrey Hovenier said that he talked with the mayors of Zubin Potok and Zveçan about the current situation in the north of Kosovo.

Speaking to reporters, Hovenier said that "it is important to avoid situations in which public officials enter public buildings through the use of force."

"In the meeting with the mayors, we talked about how they can fulfill their duties, to serve all citizens, in a way that shows responsibility to all citizens, and something like that, according to us, now means not entering building by force," said Hovenier.

The meeting took place at the European Union Office in Pristina, where the head of this office, Tomas Szunyog, was also present.

Hovenier said that the four mayors of municipalities with a Serbian majority in the north were invited to the meeting, but that only Zveçan and Zubin Potok were present - both from the Democratic Party of Kosovo in the opposition.

Hovenier said that he also met the president of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, with whom he said that he discussed the situation in the north.
