State Police Director, Ardi Veliu Resigns

The State Police Director of Albania, Ardi Veliu, resigns. The news was officially confirmed on Tuesday evening as he presented his resignation letter to Prime Minister Edi Rama.

The last thanked him for the job done and has expressed the conviction that the former leader has much to give to the state in other duties.

On the social networks, the Head of Government, thanked the now-former Director from the bottom of his heart for his contribution and stressed the highest consideration for the honesty, professionalism and special dedication of Veliu.

“With the highest consideration for the honesty, professionalism and special dedication of the General Director of the State Police, Ardi Veliu, and with the conviction that he still has a lot to give to the state in other tasks, I thank him from the bottom of my heart for his valuable contribution”, tweeted PM Rama.

In the meantime, Rama also disclosed Veliu’s letter of resignation, where the latter stated that it has been an honor and privilege for him to serve the country as Head of State Police for the past four years in a challenging and demanding day-to-day job, often away from the families of the children who have sacrificed with him.

Reason for Velliu’s resignation seems to have been his family, because he has decided not to “seek another term and to offer my resignation to commit more time to the family and children who are now at a delicate age whom I have missed endlessly for these four years”.

“Dear Mr. Prime Minister,

It has been an honor and privilege for me to serve the country as Head of State Police for the past four years in a challenging and demanding day-to-day job, often away from the family and children, who have sacrificed with me. I have tried to give my best and that of our police forces by managing complex situations from the fight against drug trafficking, organized and street crime, migrant flows or even often violent rallies.

But, at this point, I have decided not to seek another term and to offer my resignation to commit more time to the family and children who are now at a delicate age whom I have missed endlessly for these four years.

This has undoubtedly been the most valuable experience of my life and I thank you for the continued trust, support and courage, without which we would not have been able to successfully manage so many challenges. I look forward to working together again in the future in the service of our country and our people.

With the deepest gratitude and the highest considerations, Ardi Veliu”, as quoted from the official letter of resignation.
