2nd Day of Protests in Tirana Ends as Demonstrators Vow to Continue Rallying for Zvërnec Protected Area
Citizens concluded the second day of protests outside the Prime Minister’s Office on Monday after nearly two hours of demonstrations aimed at protecting the Zvërnec protected area, organizers announced. Protesters said they will gather again on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. local time.
The demonstration began in front of the Ministry of Interior, where participants assembled carrying banners with messages such as “Albania Is Not for Sale” alongside a range of political and environmental slogans.
Protesters later marched toward the Prime Minister’s Office, where a temporary stage was set up and several participants addressed the crowd, expressing concerns over the future of the Zvërnec protected area and calling for stronger environmental protections.
In a symbolic act of protest, several demonstrators surrounded the Ministry of Interior building with barbed wire, describing the action as a sign of dissatisfaction with the current situation and a demand for greater protection of Zvërnec.
The latest rally follows a large turnout during the previous day’s demonstrations, when citizens marched from the Tirana Police Directorate to the Ministry of Interior before concluding in front of the Prime Minister’s Office. Participants emphasized the importance of preserving protected natural areas and raising awareness about environmental issues affecting the country.
Organizers have called on supporters to return for a third consecutive day of demonstrations, maintaining pressure on authorities over the future of the protected coastal area.
