Albania, COVID-19 New Infections Drop but Deaths Remain High

Significant decrease in the daily coronavirus cases was marked during the last 24 hours in Albania as the health authorities have confirmed that 565 people resulted positive for the virus. But unfortunately the number of fatalities continue to remain high as 14 citizens have passed away due to the novel virus.

According to the data by Ministry of Health, Tirana remains the most affected area by coronavirus in Albania 146 new infections, while Gjirokastra had 71 cases, Lezha had 50 and Elbasan had 37. The situation appears better in Malësi e Madhe, Bulqiza, Kurbin, Dibra, Pogradec, Peqin and Kolonja, which had 2 or 1 fresh infection each.

Meanwhile, the fatalities in these last 24 hours were 6 citizens from Tirana, 3 citizens from Fieri, 2 citizens from Korça, 2 citizens from Prrenjas, 1 citizen from Berat, aged 59-82. With the latest deaths, coronavirus death toll in Albania has climbed up to 699 since the pandemic begun.

On the bright note, 373 citizens have healed from the disease during the last 24 hours, bringing the number of recovered to 15,842 since the beginning of the outbreak.

Currently in 3 COVID hospitals are being treated 449 patients, 12 in intensive therapy and 6 of the later are intubated.

The Ministry of Social Protection calls on the citizens to avoid any kind of gathering of over 10 people while emphasizing that “all citizens must strictly respect the rules, not lowering at any moment the vigilance for maintaining physical distance, keeping the mask in any environment outside their home and taking care of hygiene”.
