Albanian President Bajram Begaj convened the National Security Council on Monday to discuss the country’s current security situation and strengthen cooperation among state institutions.

Representatives of the General Prosecutor’s Office and SPAK, Albania’s Special Prosecutor’s Office, also attended the meeting.

According to the Presidency, participants stressed the need for greater institutional coordination, respect for the independence of criminal investigations and stronger public trust in security institutions.

Referring to the case involving Vlora Hyseni, the council said judicial investigations must remain fully independent and be respected by all institutions, adding that individual cases should not develop into a broader crisis of confidence in the state or security institutions.

The council also discussed cooperation with international partners and allies, as well as transparency, accountability and institutional oversight.

The National Security Council is an advisory body to the president and does not make decisions. Its meetings are held behind closed doors.
