Students Lead National Protest in Tirana, Demand Prime Minister Edi Rama’s Resignation

A nationwide student protest began in Tirana this Saturday, with demonstrators gathering outside the Ministry of Education to demand the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama.

The demonstration was joined by supporters of Albania’s opposition Democratic Party (DP), who had initially assembled outside the Prime Minister’s Office before marching toward the Ministry of Education to join the students.

The student-led rally began at 2 p.m., with demonstrators chanting slogans against the government, including “Albania belongs to Albanians.”

The protest has been organized by the group “Students in Protest,” which has continued its campaign for more than 150 days, calling for Rama to step down.

After gathering outside the Prime Minister’s Office for approximately an hour, Democratic Party supporters marched toward the Ministry of Education, expressing solidarity with the students.

During the march, opposition supporters chanted “We stand with the students,” signaling their support for the young demonstrators and their demands.

Both groups share a central demand: the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama. Anti-government slogans were also heard throughout the demonstration.
