Albania to Vote on New Head of National Bureau of Investigation
Albania’s High Prosecutorial Council (KLP) will vote on 9 December to appoint Joni Keta as the new director of the National Bureau of Investigation (BKH). Keta, currently deputy director, was nominated by the Special Prosecution against Corruption (SPAK).
The closed-door meeting today included KLP members and U.S. Embassy representatives. Keta has a long career in law enforcement and comes from a prominent legal family, with both parents active in the justice sector.
Joni Keta has served as a judicial police officer in the former Serious Crimes Prosecution before joining BKH following the reorganization under SPAK. He comes from a family with a strong legal background: his father, Hysen Keta, is a prosecutor, and his mother, Majlinda Keta, is a well-known professor. On his father’s side, he is the grandson of Myslym Keta, who was honored as a “Hero of the People” for his contributions during Albania’s National Liberation War.
