One Macedonia and Ericsson sign general contract on developing state-of-the-art 5G network

One Macedonia Telecommunications DOOEL, member of 4iG Group, signed the supply and services agreement with Ericsson to develop North Macedonia’s most advanced greenfield 5G Standalone (SA) mobile network at the 2026 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

The contract covers the supply of Radio Access Network (RAN) and Core network equipment, including all relevant software, implementation services, and long-term technical support. Under the four-year contract terminus, from 2026 to 2029, Ericsson serves as the exclusive technology partner for the rollout of One Macedonia’s new 5G SA network which will include more than 500 5G base stations in 4 years. Following the frequency investment in January, the agreement accelerates the execution of 4iG’s EUR 100 million investment strategy for North Macedonia.

The signing ceremony took place at MWC 2026, the world’s largest event for the telecommunications industry event, which highlights the international importance of the project and North Macedonia’s role in 4iG Group’s regional expansion strategy.

This agreement marks an important milestone following last year’s letter of Intent and formally initiates the deployment of a full-scale network in North Macedonia.

One Macedonia will have one of the most modern 5G Standalone networks built in the region. As a greenfield project, the infrastructure can be designed without legacy constraints, enabling high-speed connectivity, ultra-low latency, advanced network stability and energy efficiency. The network architecture will provide a future-ready digital platform for consumers, enterprises and public institutions.

The implementation will be fully aligned with the obligations defined in the spectrum license awarded to One Macedonia on 23 January 2026. The license requires 5G coverage in at least one city by March 2027, coverage of major transport routes by March 2029, full coverage of all cities by March 2031, and nationwide coverage by March 2033.

Today we step from strategy to execution. Instead of upgrading an old network, we are building a completely new, secure and future-proof digital foundation for North Macedonia. By partnering Ericsson, we can ensure that our infrastructure meets the highest European standards of performance, reliability and security. Signing this agreement at Mobile World Congress reflects our ambition to position North Macedonia firmly within the global digital ecosystem”, stated Brano Djurovi?, Executive Director of One Macedonia.

Ericsson also emphasized the strategic importance of the partnership.

“Building a greenfield 5G Standalone network offers a unique opportunity to shape a resilient, secure, and highly scalable 5G infrastructure from day one. We are proud to support One Macedonia and 4iG Group in deploying a future-ready infrastructure based on the latest Ericsson technology and global best practices. This network will provide the foundation for advanced digital services, enabling innovation, business growth and enhanced connectivity across North Macedonia,” said Antonio Passarella, Head of Central Europe and North Balkans, Ericsson.

The agreement comprises a supply contract with Ericsson AB in Sweden and a service contract with Ericsson Macedonia in Skopje. This combination of global technological expertise and robust local implementation capabilities ensures unparalleled efficiency throughout the implementation process.

This step marks the beginning of the execution phase of One Macedonia’s network development plan, reinforcing its commitment to long-term investment, transparency, and regional digital integration.
