Albanian Cocaine 'King' Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison

Dritan Rexhepi, otherwise known as the Albanian 'King' of cocaine, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison by the Court of Florence.

Italian media write that the first part of the investigation into the international traffic between Ecuador and Florence has been completed.

The Albanian boss has requested a shortened trial, which has favoured the reduction of the years of the sentence.

The Albanian drug cartel, led by Rexhepi, imported large quantities of cocaine from South America, Ecuador, to Italy and the Tuscany region through a network of traffickers all over the world.

The investigation, which began in 2015 and led to the seizure of 5 million euros and 4 tons of cocaine, initially focused on the Florence, whose existence was discovered by investigating a seemingly trivial episode in the relationship after a violent fight between subjects related to the exploitation of prostitution that broke out in via delle Medaglie d'Oro, in Rifredi.

By monitoring the affairs of the people involved in this fight, the investigators realized that their business was not only exploitation: after seizing an 'encrypted' Blackberry mobile phone (each conversation was accessible with a code), the investigations managed to reveal the international trade of "Los Blancos".
