Ambassador Kim Put Emphasis on Corruption during Farewell Speech
US Ambassador Yuri Kim emphasized the reforms in justice and the main problem that is corruption, in the last conference of her mandate in Tirana, on Wednesday.
In her statement, Yuri Kim emphasized that Albania has made many changes and is not related to what it was in 1991, but there is still a lot of work to be done in some areas.
She stated that she has seen and followed the changes in Albania herself and not what the politicians say in their statements.
Among other things, the American diplomat stated that corruption is one of the main problems that is still active and that must be put to an end with work and will.
According to her, it is important for the courts and prosecutors to be independent as this will also bring the credibility of foreign investors, who if they encounter a problem, they will get the solution in the courts without threats and bribes.
"As I mentioned and at the beginning we have made historical progress, progress cannot be made in one and not in the other. In each of these areas there are opportunities for growth, but we should not hide the criticism but that there are opportunities to grow. This country has been through a lot, the Albanians have been a persistent nation, and for this reason they have managed to get the right results.
Also, all of us should be people who look at the facts, how far this country has come, how today's Albania does not resemble that of 1991, and if there is someone who thinks otherwise, let me give you facts that this is true. I don't mean what politicians say but I talk to real people. I am not saying this to stop doing things, but there is still a lot to do", she said.
