Ambassador Kim Urges for Vigilance against Illegal Trafficking

From the Kakavija border crossing, the US Ambassador to Albania sent a message to law enforcement agencies in Albania to be vigilant and ruthless in the face of illegal trafficking and other forms of crime.

Kim stated that secure borders are important not only for Albania and its neighbours but for global security as a whole, including the United States. She stressed that the US will continue to stand by Albania. The US Ambassador was present at the ceremony, after the US donated some equipment to Kakavija customs.

"I am just happy to be here. I was the director of the office responsible for Eastern Mediterranean issues that included Greece, it is a pleasure to see the flags of the USA, Albania and Greece waving behind me. It is a pleasure to be here in Kakavija at one of the main entry points into Albania. Secure borders are important not only for Albania and its neighbours but also for global security, that includes the US.

The commitment of the US government to strengthen law enforcement in Albania is here now and will continue to be here forever. This commitment is unwavering. The donation of equipment is proof of that. We are not alone in this area. We work closely with Greece. Protecting borders from arms and drug trafficking is essential for regional security.

Recent border arrests are a good indication that the equipment we have donated is efficient. Arms trafficking, narcotics trade are driven by clever and ruthless criminal elements. We need to be a little smarter and more ruthless. We urge agencies to work side by side against illegal trafficking and other forms of crime. The United States will continue to stand by you in the face of ever-evolving crime," Kim said.
