Banking System Transactions Jump in 2025
Transactions through the banking system increased during 2025. Bank of Albania data show that in the first 11 months of the year, 356,609 payments in euros were processed, with a total value of Euro 5.6 billion, marking an increase of 11% compared to the same period a year earlier.
According to the Bank of Albania, during November alone, 32,714 transactions in euros were carried out, with a value of Euro 513.8 million, reflecting the intensification of the use of banking channels for cross-border payments and trade transactions.
The growth of electronic transactions is being driven by the digitalization of services, lower costs and ease of use, factors that have been improved thanks to payment systems such as AIPS and SEPA.
The Bank of Albania anticipates that in the coming period this trend will be further strengthened with the implementation of the Instant Payment system, which will enable real-time payments.
Furthermore, the non-performing loan (NPL) ratio of the Albanian banking system fell to 4.19% in November, from 4.33% in October, the central bank said on Monday.
On an annual comparison basis, the NPL ratio also decreased, from 4.48% in November 2024, the central bank said in a monthly report. The report comprises data from all 11 banks operating in the Albanian market.
