Worrying Covid-19 Infections, Beginning of New School Year Postponed

Albania has decided to postpone the new school year as Delta variant of Covid-19 is significantly spreading nationwide.

The Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, Evis Kushi, announced this Friday that the start of the new school year 2021-2022 has been postponed due to increase in new daily Covid figures from 1 infection a day on July to more than 550 on August.

In a press conference, Minister Kushi stated that this school year will not start on September 13, but on September 27, 2021. 

"Carefully evaluating and considering the concerns and suggestions received from teachers and parents, we decided to extend the period of supplementary education until the start of the new school year, not on September 13, but on September 27, 2021. During the period of supplementary education, starting on September 1, students are not required to go to school every day, while teachers and all school staff will be there full time to offer in addition to supplementary education, various sports, artistic and cultural activities .
