The mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, was arrested this Monday morning by order of the Special Prosecution against Corruption (SPAK).

His arrest was made by the forces of the Investigation Bureau, as against him was issued a 'Prison arrest' security measure by SPAK.

Veliaj is accused for passive corruption and money laundry while a information is expected to be issued over this case by SPAK.

Meanwhile, his wife, Ajola Xoxa is under 'House arrest' security measure. While other measures were given for Gentian Sula, Meriman Palushi, Fatmir Bektashi, Sokol Kryeziu and Shkelqim Fusha.
