Doctor Ilir Alimehmeti withdrew this Monday from the race for the primaries of Tirana, after the runoff he had with the MP of the Democratic Party, Belind Kelliçi, making the latter the official DP candidate for the capital. 

In a recent press conference, Kelliç stated that DP will select the American model and Ilir Alimehmeti will be his right-hand man in the campaign and the next deputy mayor if they win on May 14. 

"Anyone who had expectations, I have the impression that even the most optimistic are surprised by this standard that is set for the first time in Albanian democracy. It has not been an easy campaign, or an easy race. This is a good omen for the Albanian political class and the democratization of political forces. I am proud to have been part of the primaries. Today we will adopt the American presidential race. I have the greatest pleasure today to say that it is no longer me but we, to present Ilir Alimehemti as my right-hand man in the campaign and the deputy mayor when we start on May 14", said Kelliçi.
