The Commander of the Guard of the Republic, Ermal Onuzi, resigned this Tuesday.

Onuzi was appointed to head the Guard on September 10, 2024, just nine months ago.

He completed his higher military studies in Italy, at the “Military Academy, Modena” and at the “Officers Specialization School, Turin” and graduated from the University of Turin for “Strategic Sciences”, Master of Science. After completing his studies, from 2003 to 2005 he was part of the 2nd Infantry Battalion, Rapid Reaction Brigade, etc.

In 2005, he was appointed to the Military Intelligence Service (MIS) at the Ministry of Defense and then, in 2009, he was transferred to the State Intelligence Service, where he served in various positions. In 2022, he was appointed Deputy Director General of the Defense Intelligence and Security Agency (DISA).
