British Ambassador Meets Newly Elected President

The British Ambassador to Albania Alastair King-Smith and the United Kingdom Envoy to the Western Balkans Sir Stuart Peach met this Wednesday with the new President of Albania Bajram Begaj. The British Embassy, through a message on social media, said that King-Smith congratulated Begaj on his election as the next Head of State.

"Ambassador Alastair King-Smith and the Special Envoy for the Western Balkans, Sir Stuart Peach, met with the newly elected President, Bajram Begaj, and congratulated him on his election as the next Head of State. They praised his intention to serve the long-term interests of the Albanian people," the embassy announced. 

The British ambassador stated that the topic of discussion was regional security. He says they will work together with President Begaj for the United Kingdom and Albania to address common challenges. 

"We discussed the importance of regional security, addressing rising energy and food prices and ensuring higher standards in public office and appointments. The Special Envoy, Sir Stuart Peach, is on a two-day visit to Albania with the aim of strengthening Britain's commitment to working with Albanian leaders and other leaders to promote strong democratic institutions and open societies throughout the region.

As close allies, we will work with President Begaj for the United Kingdom and Albania to address common challenges and create new opportunities for cooperation for both our countries," said Ambassador Alastair King-Smith.
