C. Court Publishes Final Decision on 'Cakaj Issue'
The Constitutional Court unveiled on Friday the full verdict related to the decision not to decree Gent Cakaj at the head of the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs. This decision is related to the institutional dispute between President Ilir Meta and Prime Minister Edi Rama.
The Constitutional Court has decided to partially accept the request of the Prime Minister, while it has terminated the trial for the search for the resolution of the dispute of competence between the Prime Minister and the President of the Republic of Albania.
In the decision, the Court states that the powers for the appointment and dismissal of the Minister are divided between three bodies, the Prime Minister, the President and the Assembly.
President Meta didn't accept in 2019 to decree Gent Cakaj as Foreign Minister. Then, Prime Minister Edi Rama was decreed himself in this post, but the competencies were transferred to Gent Cakaj who served as Acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs.
