Legalization of cannabis in Albania for health reasons will be one of the topics that Albanians will be asked through the initiative of the National Counselling for Albania, where there will be a popular assembly on issues of strategic importance for the country. 

The news was announced by Prime Minister Edi Rama, who said that he is among the people who already believe that Albania can no longer wait for this issue, but that the decision-making will come after all Albanian citizens have been asked. 

Prime Minister Edi Rama said: 

"The cultivated and monitored processing of cannabis for medical purposes without legalizing its use for other reasons is today an instrument that many countries are using to empower their economies. 

Today in Albania there are people who say it is not yet time for Albania to enter this process. I was one of them until a certain moment, but while in my point of view it seems that we can not wait any longer. 

However, this is a decision that we need more than our conviction in this case, and we need to go beyond the majority card again and get a much wider opinion from all Albanians."
