Delegation Travels to Syria to Discuss Repatriation

An Albania delegation has travelled to north-western Syria for an official visit on Thursday, mainly focused on discussing about the repatriation of Albanians citizens trapped at the infamous Al-Hol Camp. Among the high officials were the Honorary Consul of Albania in Lebanon, Mark Gharib, the chief of the anti-terror squad, Gledis Nano, and the chief of the Special Anti-Terrorism Operational Forces, Indrit Doda.

On the other hand, the special envoy of the Albanian President, Ilir Kulla, made two strong appeals on Wednesday at the end of his visit at the Al-Hol (Al-Hawl) camp.

“As President Meta's special envoy for the issue of the return of Albanian children left in Syria, I visited the camp which is in catastrophic conditions. I have to make two appeals: one for the friends of the media in Albania to be very careful in every word they say, because thanks to the internet in few minutes everything is transmitted in the camp and can harm children and women who are there. Secondly, I have an invitation for the Albanian authorities, especially to the Prime Minister, that if really want to bring back home these children and women, seriousness and professionalism needed, not dilettantism. We must act fast as winter is coming and Covid-19 makes everything worse," said Kulla.

The exact number of Albanians there has not been made public, but Minister of State Elisa Spiropali has stated recently that there are 28 children.
