Dough Products’ Prices Increase by 13-20% in Albania

Prices have increased from 13 to 20% for 12 types of bread (divided by weight and composition) in retail stores in the districts.

According to the trade units of food products in the districts of Korça and Pogradec (in addition to food products they also trade bread) for 2 days from the bakery "Bleta" the supply of these products is at increased prices.

The Association of Bread, Confectioneries and Doughs confirms an increase in prices for some bakeries in Gjirokastra, Vlora and Saranda. The president of the Bread Association, Gëzim Peshkopia, explained that the increase is not massive in the whole market, but the districts that have changed their prices are more exposed to the increase in the cost of transport due to the distance.

Specifically, the price of massive white and black bread for the districts in the southeast of Albania has increased by 20%, reaching 120 ALL. There was also a high increase in the price of bread used for toast, reaching 130 lek from 110 lek (18% increase).

The price of 500 grams of corn bread has increased by 20%, reaching 60 lek. There has been an increase for other types of bread as well, such as loaves weighing 550 grams from 60 lek, 70 lek are being sold (17% increase), cake bread weighing 500 grams and chickpea bread has increased by 20%.

The price of rye bread and bread weighing 700 grams has remained unchanged. The price of bread used for hamburgers weighing 80 grams from 10 lek for two days is selling for 12 lek (20% increase).

For the period 2021-2022 the price of mass bread has increased 3 times in a row with a total increase of 71.4%.

The first price increase started in September last year where mass bread from 70 lek increased to 80 lek. In the middle of March, the price of bread increased again, reaching 100 ALL.

Meanwhile the price of 120 lekë has started to be traded in districts such as Korça, Pogradeci, Gjirokastra or Saranda due to the increase in the cost of transporting flour from fuel. The price increase to 120 lek is expected to be reflected very soon in the entire market.
