DP Accuses Govt of Seeking to Interfere in Judiciary System
The Democratic Party stated this Monday that the government is blatantly interfering in the judiciary system in an attempt to control every office.
The member of the Presidency of the Democratic Party Arben Ristani denounced today what he called "the next thing", such as creating a law of one of the questions which, according to the government, has been approved by the people and it is about judges and prosecutors who have not passed the vetting.
"Question 10, out of 12 in total, was: There are people who say that judges and prosecutors, who have not yet passed Vetting, should be automatically suspended from the justice system if their decision-making is clearly against the law, while others say, that the suspension and exclusion from the system must be carried out according to the procedures in force.
What do you think? The government asks.
According to the government, which itself asks the questions and fills in the answers, 74 percent of the people supported Yes, that is, the fact that judges and prosecutors should be suspended automatically.
Apparently, the people, according to the government, who know the justice system well and professionally, do not seem to agree with the decision of the Constitutional Court, which has declared unconstitutional the punishment of judges for their decisions and repealed the provision of the Criminal Code for this matter.
The first alarm that should be raised, even with all the power and possibility, is the heaviest blow to the heart, which the government is planning to give to the Albanian democratic system, destroying one of the main pillars on which this system stands, the independence of the judiciary.
The Democratic Party condemns this new blatant intervention of the government in the affairs of the judiciary, and describes it as nothing more than the next attempt to undo democracy and to control every secret, or capture every office of justice," Ristani said.
