EPP Calls Albania's Political Parties to Implement June 5 Agreement

The members of the European People’s Party (EPP) Political Assembly (PA) met via video-conference on Monday to discuss among others issues even the ongoing political situation in Albania as parties fail to reach agreement on electoral reform.

On this issue, the EPP said that it fully supports Albania’s roadmap towards EU integration, including free and fair elections as a fundamental prerequisite.

"The electoral reform of 5 June was consensually approved and internationally supported and should be implemented as agreed. Unilateral changes at this stage are against OSCE/ODIHR recommendations as well as the EU Council decision for opening the accession negotiations. The EPP urges the authorities to refrain from any unilateral changes and respect the consensual agreement as committed to," says the statement.
