Ex-PM Berisha's Son-in-Law Released from Prison
Special Court of Appeal against Corruption and Organized Crime (GJKKO) decided to release Jamarbër Malltezin from prison this Tuesday, reducing the measure from "prison arrest" to "house arrest".
According to the decision of the Special Appeal, Malltezi is ordered not to leave his apartment and not to communicate with other people except those who live in the same apartment with him.
On the other hand, the legal situation for former Prime Minister Sali Berisha has not changed much. At the end of the trial session in the Special Appeal, the legal defender of the former prime minister, Sali Berisha, considered the political issue.
"This matter remains political, it has nothing to do with the essence, it is a scratch, Malltezi has no penalty of any kind. It is impossible to file a complaint and register criminal proceedings for such cases. We will continue the procedure" said Gjokutaj, while regarding a tightening of the security measures against former Prime Minister Berisha due to his non-appearance at SPAK, he stated that Berisha is not in any danger of leaving the country.
"The tightening of measures is related to the risk of flight. Berisha is in no danger of running away. The problem is legal, that measure stems from an unconstitutional process. Today, the court announced only the ruling. We have another session on Thursday. For the loss of the power of the decision, the battle will be long, we will carry out all legal procedures", added Gjokutaj.
Among other things, the legal defender of the former prime minister commented on the reasons for Berisha's non-appearance at SPAK.
"The refusal to appear is about unconstitutionality. It was treated in a different way, removing one of the basic rights, that of defense in the Assembly. The court's decision is a bad copy of the first instance, which had the patience to listen but did not have the courage to decide," he said.
Meanwhile, the Court did not give a justification regarding the decision to change the security measure for Malltezi.
