First Case of Covid-Flu Mix ‘Flurona’ Spotted in Israel
First case of Flurona, a mixture of coronavirus and influenza, have been detected in a young pregnant woman in Israel, the international media have informed.
Few days ago, The Mirror reported that the woman was detected with “the co-presence of both the flu and the Covid-19 pathogens”. The unvaccinated woman is a patient at the Beilinson Hospital in Petach Tikva.
Furthermore, the UK daily reported that the woman was found positive for the two infections during an analysis at the hospital. The Israeli Health Ministry is studying the results.
The woman is currently showing relatively mild symptoms of the disease that "causes difficulty breathing".
Israeli authorities are also studying if the combination of the two infections could cause a more serious illness.
Medical experts in Israel said several other patients may have contracted the two viruses but have not been diagnosed yet, reported The Mirror.
Professor Arnon Vizhnitser, director of Beilinson Hospital's Gynecology Department said there were no flu cases among pregnant or birthing women in 2020 but "Today, we are seeing cases of both coronavirus and the flu that are starting to rear their head”.
"We are seeing more and more pregnant women with the flu.”
