Former Police Director Testifies at SPAK over Deadly Protest on January 21

Former Director of the State Police, Hysni Burgaj appeared this Wednesday at the Special Prosecution against Corruption (SPAK) to be questioned about the 21 January case, where 4 people were killed during the opposition protest.

After the testimony he said for the media that he gave explanation as a person that has knowledge about the case.

He underlined that during this protest he only implemented the law adding that police officers supported the violence of the protesters.

"I gave explanations as a person who knows about the events of January 21. The plan of measures is 50 pages long, I cannot comment on them. The police made a detailed plan of measures for January 21 and implemented the law. I followed the law. We have not had any orders to react. The police endured extreme violence and used neither weapons nor violence against the protesters. The arrest warrants have been executed," he said.
