Fredi Beleri Issue, DOS Urges Authorities to Apply Laws Fairly

US Department of State has reacted after the arrest of the candidate for mayor of Himara, Fredi Beleri, who is suspected of buying votes.

DASH has called on the authorities to apply all laws and regulations fairly and equally. Responding to a question from Greek correspondents in Washington, a representative of the State Department sought to ensure the validity of the elections by calling on all parties to respect the laws and regulations.

"We have repeatedly asked the authorities and political parties to ensure that voters can exercise their basic democratic right to express their will through free and fair elections. It is important that everyone respects the laws and rules governing elections, as well as international laws, including the ban on buying or selling votes. We call on the authorities to apply all laws and regulations fairly and equitably. American embassy officials are joining with other international institutions to monitor the elections across the country", concluded the representative of the US Department of State.
