General Director of Prisons Mets High-Ranking Delegation from the US Embassy

The General Director of Prisons, Mr. Klevis Qose, held a meeting with a high-ranking delegation from the Embassy of the United States of America in Tirana, led by Ms. Kathryn Hammond, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy, ??as well as a team of experts from Washington D.C., to hold a special ceremony to donate equipment to improve the Albanian penitentiary system.

This event was attended by senior representatives of US government strategic programs such as INL (Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs) and ICITAP (International Criminal Investigation Training Assistance Program), which are key contributors to strengthening capacities in the General Directorate of Prisons.

The focus of this concrete support is to improve working standards and strengthen the infrastructure in our penitentiary system, through modern technical equipment and professional training.

Mr. Qose emphasized the importance of establishing specialized structures, such as the Directorate of Risk Analysis and Assessment, which is following intelligent models similar to those of the American correctional system, thanks to the support of Washington.

The General Director expressed his gratitude for the continued support of the American government and emphasized that facing the challenges of further reforming the system requires a stable partnership. "The General Directorate of Prisons strongly values ??the relationship with the United States of America as a strategic partner for the professionalization and modernization of the penitentiary system," he said.

On her part, Ms. Kathryn Hammond praised the progress made towards reforming the Albanian penitentiary system, emphasizing the US commitment to further supporting efforts for a fairer, safer, and more humane system.

The delegation also included Mr. Stephen Fields from the US Department of Justice, Mr. Richard Deasy, attaché at ICITAP, and Mr. John Kastning from INL, as well as Nisha Abraham, political-military officer who reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Albania's reform efforts in the field of criminal justice.
