Minister of Agriculture Anila Denaj

Agricultural Exports Up Nearly 4-fold in a Decade

Agricultural exports from Albania reached Euro 570 million in 2024, up from Euro 150 million in 2013, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Anila Denaj announced on Wednesday.

Denaj noted that the growth comes after a decade of steady effort, continuous support for farmers, and policies aimed at boosting production and raising standards. The government targets Euro 1 billion in agricultural exports by 2030.

Upgrades in agricultural infrastructure, promotion of agro-tourism, subsidy programs for farmers, and certification and standardization of local products helped increase competitiveness in international markets. “The sector’s transformation is now a reality,” Denaj said. She stressed the government’s commitment to continue supporting all workers.

She connected this progress to a vision of Albania producing, exporting, and moving closer to the European Union every day. Agriculture remains a key pillar of economic development and EU integration.

Albanian agricultural products already reach EU markets, the region, and beyond. Exports focus mainly on fruits and vegetables, medicinal plants, and processed products.

The sector still faces challenges. These include land fragmentation, lack of modern machinery, effects of climate change, and labor shortages in rural areas.

To reach the Euro 1 billion export goal by 2030, Albania needs stronger policies to modernize agricultural infrastructure, secure food supplies, and improve access to international markets.
