Germany to Support About 400 Flood-Affected Families in Albania

The German Embassy in Tirana has announced that Germany will support around 400 families affected by recent floods in Albania, providing £250,000 in emergency assistance.

In a statement, the embassy said the funding will be made available through the German-backed Start Fund and allocated to the NGO World Vision UK. The aid will support approximately 400 families, or about 1,800 people, in the hardest-hit regions, including Durrës and surrounding areas such as Sukth, Katund i Ri, Kënetë, Rrashbull, Porto Romano, as well as Shkozet and Nishtullë.

The assistance package includes sanitation and hygiene support, emergency shelter and non-food items, protection measures — including protection from gender-based violence — food security assistance, and support for basic needs.

“Following the severe floods of recent weeks, the German-supported Start Fund is immediately providing £250,000 to World Vision UK to assist affected families in Albania,” the embassy said.

In addition to emergency aid, the embassy highlighted Germany’s broader support for strengthening early warning systems through the GIZ ALBAdapt project. The initiative aims to improve the prediction of extreme weather events and help communities take preventive measures in the future.
