Greek Minister Discusses Beleri Issue with EU Officials
Greek diplomatic sources inform that the Beleris case was at the center of the contacts of the Greek Foreign Minister Georgios Gerapetritis with officials of the European Commission and the European Parliament.
The Greek diplomat met today at the headquarters of the European Parliament in Brussels, the president of the Commission for Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament, David McAllister, with whom he discussed the European perspective of the Western Balkans, the need for Albania to respect the rules of the rule of law and the issue related with the ban of the elected mayor of the Himarë Municipality, Fredi Beleris.
The issue of the detention of Beleris was raised by the Foreign Minister in the meeting he had at the headquarters of the European Commission with the Commissioner for Enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi, where he emphasized the importance of its immediate solution.
The meeting also discussed the issues of enlargement, the European perspective of the Western Balkans, the perspectives of Euro-Turkish relations after the elections in Turkey, the Cyprus issue and aspects of the immigration issue.
During the meeting, Gerapetritis presented the Greek positions on developments in the Eastern Mediterranean, the importance of strengthening EU-Egypt relations, but also on Greek-Turkish relations, after the Vilnius Summit.
