Head of Kakavija Border Point Publishes Achievements for 2020
Kakavija Border Police has made public the annual report for 2020. During a statement to the media, the head of the Kakavija Border Police Station, Vilson Dine, spoke about the movements, conditions to be met and the results achieved by the Border Police during 2020.
Dine emphasized that the Border Police has as a main priority the increase of the quality of service for the citizens. He also said that during this year there has been no case of drug trafficking caught by the Greek Police that has passed through the Kakavija Border Crossing Point.
Regarding the annual activity at the Kakavija Border Crossing Point, for 2020, it was announced that during this year a total of 37 cases of cross-border crimes occurred at the Kakavija Border Crossing Point, of which: 3 cases of “Narcotics trafficking â€; 9 cases of "Motor vehicle trafficking"; 6 cases of “Falsification of documentsâ€; 2 cases of "Smuggling of goods subject to excise duty and licensed goods"; 7 cases of "Non-declaration of money and valuables at the border"; 1 case "Providing assistance for illegal border crossing"; 3 cases "Non-implementation of the normative act for anti-Covid measures during the pandemic".
During 2020, the Kakavija Border Police has also identified and cracked down on 2 cases of abandonment of children in EU countries, with the aim of seeking asylum, while 23 citizens declared nationally wanted have been apprehended at this Border Crossing Point.
Over 20 joint operations with Local Police Directorate of Gjirokastra and Frontex were also considered successful, to crack down on criminal activity in the field of providing assistance for illegal border crossings of migrants from third countries. The pandemic has also reduced the number of citizens crossing the border, due to anti-Covid restrictions imposed since March this year.
